Ismailia Tunnels (Tahya Masr)
The construction of twin car road tunnels beneath the Suez Canal, north of Ismailia, marks a significant milestone in Egypt’s infrastructure development. These tunnels will serve as a crucial link between the Sinai Peninsula and the Nile Delta, fostering economic growth and enhancing national connectivity. The project, undertaken by Concord EC, is a testament to Egypt’s commitment to modernization and economic progress.
Two Twin Car Tunnels passing under Suez Canal – Ismailia:
• Length of 5.8 Km/each
• Internal diameter of 11.40 m.
• External diameter of 12.60 m.
• Tunnel Slope: 3%
• Deepest point: 53 m from sea level
• Execution method: TBM and open-cut methods
• Machine Drive power: 3,500 kW
Length and Diameter
Each tunnel stretches over a distance of 5.8 kilometers. The tunnels boast an internal diameter of 11.40 meters and an external diameter of 12.60 meters, allowing for smooth traffic flow and the accommodation of large vehicles.
Tunnel Slope and Depth
The tunnels are engineered with a 3% slope, ensuring safe and efficient vehicular movement. At its deepest point, the tunnels reach 53 meters below sea level, a remarkable engineering feat that underscores the complexity of this project.
Advanced Construction Methods
The execution of this project involves the use of cutting-edge Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology, complemented by open cut methods. The TBM, with a drive power of 3,500 kW, ensures precision and efficiency in the tunneling process, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing construction speed.
Economic Impact and Future Prospects
The twin car tunnels under the Suez Canal are expected to play a pivotal role in Egypt’s economic development. By improving connectivity between the Sinai region and the Nile Delta, these tunnels will facilitate trade, tourism, and industrial growth. This strategic infrastructure project is poised to unlock new economic opportunities, contributing to the nation’s long-term prosperity.
The Ismailia Tunnels project stands out as a prominent highlight of our previous mega projects.
